Chapter 21 Exchanging Ideas with Foreigners
与老外交流
You：It's very #mon nowadays to see foreigners and have a chance to exchange ideas with them.
现在对我们来说，见到外国人并且和他们交流已经不是什么新鲜事儿了。
David：Exchange?
怎么交流呢？
You：We can learn lots from foreigners because they know a lot about the latest technologies and because they have different social and cultural customs and attitudes.
我们能从外国人那里学到许多新的技术，而且他们的社会文化习惯以及对事物的看法都和我们不同。
David:I have traveled in the United States, Europe, and South America, and generally speaking Chinese people are relatively friendlier to foreigners.
我觉得中国人很有礼貌，也很和气。我去过美国，欧洲，南美等地。总的来说，中国人对外国人更加友善一些。
You：Chinese people and foreigners may not understand each other very well when they meet for the first time, so naturally Chinese people give the appearance of being polite. After they get to know each other, Chinese people will be even more wel#ing. In fact, politeness is a virtue in China.
是呀，当中国人和外国人还不是很熟悉时，第一次见面是表现得比较客气；而当他们很熟之后，人们常会表现得更为热情。礼貌待人是中华民族的传统美德。
David：I also think politeness is a virtue, but generally speaking Americans are not as polite as Chinese are to foreigners. People from the U.S. could learn from the Chinese people's example.
我一直认为礼貌待人应当是一种美德。但一般来讲，美国人对待外国人就没有中国人对待外国人那么热情了。美国人应当向中国人民学习。
